How has ACSM certification increased your level of expertise?

ACSM certification really does carry a level of credibility that the health and fitness industry considers the "Gold Standard." Being certified communicates a standard of education and excellence throughout everything you do. 

Because renewal of your certification requires continued education, I encourage everyone to get certified or re-certified. ACSM is so well-recognized, it's definitely worth the extra effort.

What's your favorite form of personal exercise?

I like to run because it's easy, quick, and you can run almost anywhere. It's also not an expensive hobby-all you need a t-shirt, shorts, and shoes. With my job, I travel at least once a month, so it's important that I can take my exercise gear wherever I go.

How do you stay on-track with your own health routine?

I adjusted my expectations. From a scheduling perspective, if all I have is 30 minutes, it's okay. I workout at 4:30 a.m. because that's when I have time. I also set aside time at home that allows for my exercise routine. My current fitness goal is consistency: three days of cardio and two days of weight training per week. It's difficult as my schedule doesn't always allow for consistency, but I plan for it mentally, and then take advantage when an opportunity arises.

When did you first discover your love of fitness?

I started running with my Dad when I was ten years old. He ran a 10K, and I ran the 5K, and I haven't stopped since. Running carried me into high school athletics, club-level college sports, and eventually into a fitness-focused career.

What's your favorite thing about teaching others about health and fitness?

When people have that "A-ha Moment." For me, this is the moment they realize they are capable of, and self-motivated to improve their own fitness in some way, and then seeing them recognize the rewards of their accomplishment.
