Olympic-Style Competition for Those with Cardiovascular Disease or with Risk Factors

ACSM's World Heart Games provide two days of safe, fun and relational competition for those who have experienced a cardiopulmonary event or who live with risk factors. The team-based and individual events foster a competitive spirit and a healthy lifestyle. We invite all skill levels to participate on a team or as an individual. Don’t have a team? Individuals can get paired for team-based events after registering. Athletes compete in a wide variety of challenging and monitored activities during the ACSM World Heart Games, giving them a chance to be active in a way they are physically comfortable.

Scholarships

International Scholarships. Three scholarships up to $1,000 USD are available to teams of two or more participants from countries outside the U.S. Download International scholarship application.

AACVPR Scholarships. Five $1,000 scholarships are available to teams of two or more participants residing in the U.S. Download the AACVPR scholarship application.

Transportation

Transportation will be provided to and from the Charlotte Douglas International Airport located in Charlotte, North Carolina, which is roughly a 45-minute to one-hour drive to Hickory. Shuttle times will be provided closer to the event date.

About the ACSM World Heart Games

In 1990, the Georgia Association of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation began sponsoring the Heart of Gold Games. Cardiac rehabilitation programs from around the state sent teams to compete in several events. This concept led to the creation of the AACVPR International Heart & Lung Games of 2003 and 2006. In 2010 the games evolved into the ACSM World Heart Games with teams throughout the U.S. participating. The games were held next in Atlanta, Georgia in 2013, in Charlotte, North Carolina in 2016 and now Hickory, North Carolina in 2019 and 2022 with growing participation and involvement. In keeping with the Olympic motto – Citius, Altius, Fortius (faster, higher, stronger) the ACSM World Heart Games motto is now Sapientior, Fortius, Sanior (wiser, stronger, healthier)!
