ACSM Health Fitness Certifications

Give others the guidance and strength to lead a healthy lifestyle. With any of ACSM's three health fitness certifications you will make an impact on the lives of others with an advanced understanding of these topics.

The ACSM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) is qualified to plan and implement exercise programs for healthy individuals or those who have medical clearance to exercise. The CPT facilitates motivation and adherence as well as develops and administers programs designed to enhance muscular strength, endurance, flexibility, cardiorespiratory fitness, body composition, and/or any of the motor skill related components of physical fitness - i.e., balance, coordination and reaction time, to name a few.

ACSM Certified Group Exercise Instructors (GEI) are familiar and flexible with various exercise techniques, and can supervise participants or lead instructional sessions. The GEI works in a group exercise setting with apparently healthy individuals and those with health challenges who are able to exercise independently to improve health-related physical fitness, manage health risk, and promote lasting health behavior change.

ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologists (EP-C) take personal training to an advanced level by working with individuals with medically controlled diseases. The EP-C masters the necessary skills to perform pre-exercise health risk assessments and conduct physical fitness assessments, among other health tasks, to support clients in adopting and maintaining healthy lifestyle behaviors.
